Articles on: Attendee Matching

Why didn’t one of my attendees match with someone who they requested?

We do our best to accommodate the preferences of all attendees and, in fact, most attendees rate their Meetaway experience 10/10, largely because we deliver the conversations they want. That said, there are 3 primary reasons a particular attendee might not meet with someone they requested to meet:

The Desired Attendee No Showed - when an attendee does not show up, none of the people who requested to meet that attendee will be able to have the conversation. Additionally if an attendee is late or leaves early, they will reduce the chances any particular attendee will meet with that person.

The Desired Attendee's Preferences - if the organizer has enabled "Individual Matching" then there is a chance that the desired attendee chose to "Avoid" the attendee who wanted to meet them. We also keep specific attendees' individual preference data private so the other attendee won't know this is the root cause. Additionally if that attendee had many matches of mutual interest, those matches will be prioritized over one-sided interest even if the desired attendee does not specifically "Avoid" anyone else.

The Desired Attendee Was "Popular" - when one attendee is requested by a lot of other attendees at an event, they tend to get more of the conversations they want because they have more matches of mutual interest and many attendees request to meet them so it makes it more difficult for one particular attendee to meet that person.

While attendees may be disappointed they do not get every conversation they requested, attendees typically love our targeted matching. Furthermore, we have found that organizers generally want to make sure that their most "Popular" attendees, who might be senior executives or well-known figures within their particular community, have a great experience and our system ensures that.
