How does matching work?
Big picture, we have a robust matching system that enables organizers to set up matching in a way that reflects their particular events goals.
Organizers typically also give attendees the ability to choose who they meet so that attendee get what they want. We also automate all of the matching for you so attendees will meet the people they want without you having to track or manage all of that information and complexity.
We also match attendees for conversations in real-time, during the event, so it's not a problem is someone isn't able to attend, shows up late, or needs to leave early. We know these things happen all of the time and our system automatically handles them for you so they're a complete non-issue.
Matching Details
Meetaway has 5 layers of matching that you can customize to the goals of your event. When used together, each layer builds on the others to provide highly targeted conversations so attendees, sponsors, and organizers leave happy.
A/B Matching - organizers can run events than automatically match people to their counterparts (i.e., Buyer/Seller, Mentor/Mentee, Student/Alumni, etc.)
Tag Matching - organizers can add multiple categories of tags that attendees can use to describe themselves and select the types of people they want to meet. These categories are often based on background (e.g., industry, role, seniority), interests, or goals.
Individual Matching - attendees can select specific people they'd most like to meet and/or avoid.
Organizer Overrides - organizers can choose whether specific people should meet (or ensure other pairings are never made).
Reward Good Behavior - attendees can be rewarded with improved matching preference for being helpful in prior conversations. As a byproduct of this, attendees have increased incentives to be on their best behavior for each and every conversation and provide value to their peers.
We can also provide sponsors with premium matching by putting them in VIP mode, prioritizing their matching preferences over everyone else's, elevating them in the sponsor directory, including premium badging, allowing for logo placement throughout the event, and inclusion of kickoff videos to highlight their value prop.
Meetaway also provides advanced controls to organizers so they can customize how we match the odd person out if there are an odd number of attendees, whether we allow 3-way matches, and how we handle re-matching. Additional resources: We have an entire section with in depth resources for setting up matching in this help center.
