Can I hide the directory so attendees can't choose who they want to meet?

Yes, organizers can toggle whether the "Directory" is visible under "Advanced Options" on the "Edit Event" tab. When it's hidden, attendees won't see this step during the check-in flow so they won't be prompted to choose the specific people they meet.

This is a good solution if you want matches to be random or when you don't want attendees to see who is attending and / or how many people are attending.
